8-Wired
8WIRED, crowned NZ Champion Brewery 2023, was born in the infancy of the NZ craft brewer revolution.
8 Wired has always stood for innovation and ingenuity. Their first hospitality space housed in Barrelworks, Matakana, was a long held vision of owners and chief brewer Soren Eriksen and Monique Eriksen.
An exciting collaboration with EW Spaces on this project bringing both innovative spirits together to produce a multi-purpose, flexible space that 8wired can grow into.
Part of EW Spaces design brief was to form creative ‘8Wired Solutions’ wherever possible throughout the interior of the the large industrial space.
Barrelworks, needed to be a place that 8Wired could grow into, flexibility was key to allowing the space to change and adapt.
Key foundations for future growth were also set in the walls to allow for another storey.
8WIRED CHANDELIER
EW Spaces designed an “8Wired’ chandelier repurposed from reinforced steel mesh wire.
Steel reinforcing mesh is at the very core of the building structure, within the precast tilt slab concrete walls and concrete flooring. EW Spaces chose this humble, unadorned industrial material and designed 8Wired’s chandelier.
Under EW Spaces specifications 8Wired’s team and in-house welder put together the well-engineered structure.
Accelerating the oxidisation to rust colour was pivotal to the steel fitting into the scheme seamlessly.
The chandelier now sits quietly above the bar, discreet but strong—with room to evolve as Barrelworks does.
ARTWORK MASH UP
EW Spaces strategic design concept of a mash-up of beer label artwork collaged with graphical elements are installed across interior walls.
The design incorporates many of 8Wired’s highly esteemed, favourite, globally famous and incredibly diverse and tasty beers; integrated with their unique and edgy brews’ creative labels and elements in a graphical style which has become synonymous with their brand.
It was only fitting for EW Spaces to interpret this visual flair within the Barrelworks interior.
Under EW Spaces guidance and collaboration with the directors of 8Wired, the 8Wired graphics team created the mash-up collage of graphics, printing them on an aluminium finish before installing on walls.
ITALIAN FOEDERS REPURPOSED
These sought after, large Italian barrels found in 8Wireds’ storage had been patiently waiting for their moment!
Under EW Spaces design and specification they were repurposed into both unique and cosy seating and merchandising units and shelving.

Omaha Bay Art
Bonny is a gifted artist who is often found in her studio, producing an increasing portfolio of powerful work. A connection to the land and heritage are reflected in her surrounds of Omaha sand and sea.
EW Spaces has begun an exciting collaborative journey with Bonny to showcase her works throughout her home.
This ongoing project is an incredible juxtaposition of glamorous and grounded elements which has informed the design brief of this project.
EW Spaces initial proposition was to create a flexible gallery exhibition-like space in the front entrance.
Among the specifications and design for this project, EW Spaces specified a new, bespoke front door, and a custom hall runner detailing Davis’ artwork “He Maunga”.
With the artists’ permission EW Spaces commissioned our supplier to create a luxurious hand-knotted wool and tencel rug in Nepal.
A section of this powerful artwork was transposed to specific dimensions and scale that would suit the entrance space, with the colours selected by the artist to match the work.
The result has been a unique opportunity to express Bonny’s passion and talent through an extension of her creative practice.

Interior colour schemes are enhanced by EW Spaces’ ability to create and collaborate with many local and international suppliers manufacturers to produce products with tailored finishes and dimensions to our specifications.
Bespoke American Oak Dining Table
Boat shape-inspired
For this particular design brief, deliberations between an oval and a rectangle shaped dining table led to procuring the best solution, a boat shape!
This provided the advantages of both design options and fitted the design brief as a project situated next to the ocean.
EW Spaces sought a superior solution, in terms of design, finish, dimensions and the durability of solid wood over wood veneer for this family.
A bespoke solid wood table was commissioned and handcrafted to match the design and finish of specific dining chairs, along with dimensions suited to the interior.
The meticulous artisan under EW Spaces design eye delivered a handcrafted table featuring gentle curves that are subtly sublime.
